April 2012

Gosh it is April already. I have been rather slack with sewing much of late but I can now show you a finish. This is a queen size quilt I have put together using the Good Fortune range of fabric. I got my friend Dawn to quilt an all over stipple as she is charging such a great price. $50 for quilts with an all over stipple....makes my life so much easier. I have just finished hand-stitching the binding down.

Hubby is still away in the Middle East and has now got six weeks to go....gosh it still seems like forever. I know it really isn't but when he has already been away for three months it feels as if the time will never end.

Madeline and I went back to Adelaide for the school holidays and had a wonderful time visiting with our friends. Lucky Amanda, Terry and Christine made my stay very enjoyable. I also got to have a sewing morning with Dawn, Judy, Heather and the other girls that used to get together on a Tuesday. Was lovely catching up with everybody. I miss those girls so much and boy does it make coming back to an empty house even worse. Okay enough of that for me....all is well for our family and we are all happy and healthy. That's what really matters.

Aussie Hero Quilts SHOUT OUT

I thought I would do a shout out for a blog I have just come across called Aussie Hero Quilts (and laundry bags). As you all know my hubby is in the Middle East so it means a lot to me knowing there are special people who give a hoot about our troops. I also know a lot of you lovely ladies have loved ones in the Defence Forces and that we are caring, sharing people and would always love to do something special for our troops to give them a little "something" to smile about.

Please take a look at what the lovely ladies have been trying to achieve with their gifts of gratitude. It started out making laundry bags and now quilts. I imagine it would feel ever so special for our military troops to receive something from a person they don't know and to know that we do really appreciate what they do for our country and for us in general.

AWOL

I am sorry I have been AWOL for a while. I have been trying to settle into the new house...have just finished unpacking the sewing/computer room and it all feels nice and tidy now. I still have some tubs in the other spare bedroom cupboards but for now they can stay there. We have a lot of unpacked boxes I am not even going to unpack. I really have culled a heap. I am steering away from the prim now and keeping a very minimalistic look this time. I am just so over clutter and the cleaning and dusting that comes with it.

Hubby is away in the Middle East and we are missing each other heaps. We are so very lucky we get to chat and Skype each other probably twice a day...we are just not used to being away from each other like this....crazy I know...two grown adults...but we are best friends and really do enjoy being together. Hopefully the four and a half months wont drag. He is trying to get used to 12 hour shifts...painful being 9pm til 9am though.

I have booked flights to Hawaii for two weeks when he returns so we can have some time away together and he can get so rest and recreation on the beaches of Hawaii.

Madeline started grade 10 this year in her new school....she felt very lost the first day....we then had a public holiday "Australia Day" and she returns tomorrow for the last day of the week. She will then have the weekend to get herself together for a full week. It is never easy being the new kid on the block not knowing anybody in your class and feeling lost and alone. She is fortunate to have a good friend who she can catch up with a lunch and hopefully this will carry her through until she makes other friends.....she is missing her friends in Adelaide and she just loved school. She was a great student with never a problem. I can only hope this will be the case here...as a mother we worry about how our children with adapt and hope it is not too difficult for them.

Copyright

I just happened to come across a very interesting read on Sew Karen's blog regarding Copyrighting. A long but very good read if you are interested in her post on Publication Replication. Especially the last paragraph.
